Fly on the Wall - Thousand Foot Krutch
Couldn't help but come onto Polyvore, my good and safe haven for the time being. Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, etc. are INSANE right now.
You know, with the election and all. Unless you live under a rock.
I feel like this song relates right now. I am a Christian and live in, I suppose you could say, a very "republican" and "pro-Romney" supported area, and my newsfeeds are FLOODED with people upset over the election results tonight. They are FURIOUS and very disappointed in their country. Some have even gone to call American voters "immature lazy ass imbeciles" when I KNOW these people did not even vote themselves! Some have also used the F-word, and may I tell you...these people? Do not normally behave in this way. They're more angry than the last second call at the Packer-Seahawks game a few short weeks ago - and believe me, that was bad, as a Wisconsin resident.
I talked to a couple of my friends as we watched the election results unfold, and they kept telling me this short thing - "normally I wouldn't be so against a President or anything, but Obama's for abortion and gay marriage." That's all they would mention. They never said anything GOOD about Romney, or anything else good (or bad) about Obama. That was THEIR ONLY ARGUMENT. And it made me mad. These people? Are trying to fix the wrong problem. When did politics become all about abortion and gay marriage? A friend of mine also mentioned "well it's hard to fix anything else with these topics" and I can't help but thinking...how? Another friend mentioned "Abortion and gay marriage can't be fixed on a individual level - it has to be governmental."
Since when did your ever breathing life and breath come for stopping abortion and gay marriage? Are we forgetting about the suicide and bitter divorce happening in our everyday communities? Is that just looked over, because WE can actually fix that?
The most heartfelt lyrics of this song, to me, is the part I included above. "And one by one, we all became numb - we were making the bullets to a broken gun." It's saying we're trying to fix the wrong problem. My friends that I talked to about this issue are trying to go governmental and fixing abortion and gay marriage before they even attempt to stop suicide and divorce happening right next to them? It makes NO sense.
This is not to say I am for/against Obama and/or Romney. I am also 100% against abortion and gay marriage, but when this becomes these people's lives and that's ALL they want to try to stop? What about "regular" murder? "Regular" suicide, divorce, adultery, stealing, robbing, coveting, lying? Are they trying to stop THAT with the same enthusiasm? NO. No they aren't.
Instead they have plans to "STAND IN THE WELFARE LINE WITH MY GUN AND SHOOT ALL THE LAZY ASSES WHO VOTED FOR OBAMA." Really? Stereotyping against the American voters? Calling them idiots and, ahem, "lazy asses" for voting for who they thought would do a better job at directing this country - twice? Hello? Am I sensing a sense of hypocrisy here?
Thing that I hate is, with these so called "Romney supporters," I never heard anything GOOD about Romney! Or bad, really. It was all Obama-obama-obama. It goes for both sides, but I felt like Obama had more of a campaign when it came to HIS good qualities. That's why I could stand his ads better than Romney, who's ads were "Romney is God because Obama is EVIL!" type commercials. They drove me INSANE, even though I'm technically a republican.
And that's another thing. I got a chain email a while back from republicans who would keep passing it on...they want to completely abolish and point the finger and the democrats, and, sadly...it's not only them. The democrats are doing the same thing! George Washington would roll over in his grave if he was around for this election. We are being COMPLETELY separated and obliterated by these political parties.
But what I can undoubtedly say what I don't like about what I'm hearing being said...is the Obama haters. People have been saying stuff like "RIP America" and "America will regret this" and "thanks, America, for making my life a living hell for the next couple of years." These people's dispositions explain SO much about them. They are giving up on the WHOLE ENTIRE COUNTRY because of the President? That one man? How about trying to change things on a smaller scale using yourself and YOUR values, since they're all so important? Why depend on one man (who is never really going to follow your exact beliefs anyway) to do your dirty work for you? It's not going to happen...
Just my (very long) rant about the subject. You don't have to read it all, but I had to get the thoughts out. I haven't said anything about politics up until now. But it'll be over soon enough, and everyone will forget who we've elected in about a week anyways.
Cheers,
Alayne.
